Simple Things was written to be the theme to a romantic film. I tried to experiment more with this piece, pushing myself to use more complex harmonies and voicing, as well as to write for a solo instrument (in this case the flute and later the clarinet) and accompaniment. Simple Things uses a simple melody (hence the name) and is designed to reflect the peaceful and loving nature of a simple relationship.
Sleeve notes: This piece of music was inspired by the work of composer Hans Zimmer on the films series Pirates of the Caribbean. I have extensively used triplet rhythms, and attempted to fuse traditional classical instruments with more contemporary ones, such as the electric guitar and drum kit.
Sleeve notes: This piece of music was inspired by the work of composer James Horner, and his score for Braveheart. I have tried to use similar instrumentation to his, such as the use of alto flute to achieve a deeper and softer tone.
This piece was inspired by Jonas Blue and Major Laser. The quietest point is the chorus after a louder verse; it then builds to the loudest part of the song. Many songs do this, but I first learnt this from Smells like Teen Spirit by Nirvana.
